Audiotherapy as a method of psychological patient support

|September 14th, 2020|Emotional Health|

For 10 years, this team of psychologists, educators and psychiatrists has been engaged in research on the impact of audiotherapy on the psychological state of patients undergoing hemodialysis.

Starting on hemodialysis, patients face a number of difficulties. It becomes necessary to change the usual routines of life. Favorite foods may not fit the new requirements of treatment, social activity may be disturbed due to chronic illness, and the limitations of disability increase as well. These factors can result in anxiety, fear and occasionally the desire to stop treatment. Hemodialysis requires a high degree of self-organization, will and motivation from the patient. In conditions of chronic psychological stress, the ability to fit such requirements is reduced, which leads to decreased adherence to prescriptions, treatment, and, as a result, can lead to irreparable consequences.

Our team believes that timely psychological support and help, improvement in the psychological state can provide a positive impact on psychological tolerance, the formation and maintenance of the motivational and volitional component in the treatment process, which can strengthen compliance and, as a result, achieve maximum treatment effectiveness.

Our team considers Audiotherapy to be an effective and affordable method of psychological assistance. Based on a specially developed patented technique, our team created the “AudioTherapy” application, designed to facilitate hemodialysis sessions for patients. “AudioTherapy” allows hemodialysis patients to independently adjust their psychological state through listening to specially selected musical playlists,  either classical music or sounds of nature.

This method has no contraindications and can be used directly during the hemodialysis procedure to reduce anxiety. It is also efficacious in distracting patients from the hospital environment and any unpleasant physical sensations they may experience while being treated anywhere in the world. The results of our studies suggest that audio therapy has a positive effect on the psychological state of patients, helping to reduce anxiety.
